I am a 22-year-old that will soon be graduating from college. I am currently in my senior year and I am a communications major, concentrating in broadcast journalism. I also will graduate with a minor in psychology. Last year I was nominated to be the director of the sports department of the radio station, which I have been a part of for the past four years. I am always looking for new ways to challenge myself and when I was approached with the possibility of fitness modeling I was extremely intrigued.

I have been working out on a consistent basis for the past eight years, but I have never trained as hard as I have been since being approached for modeling. I started working out freshman year in high school during the soccer season and I haven't stopped since. Working out has always been something that makes me feel good both mentally and physically so I jumped at the opportunity to possibly gain some exposure doing something that I already love to do.

When I went to my first audition I was told to lose some more weight and tighten up my abs, which is something I have never done. So right away I knew I would have to make some major changes to make this happen. Like I said I had never worked on my abs before so I started talking to everyone from personal trainers to other bodybuilders and I took tips from everyone. My first task was changing my diet. I now try to eat five to six smaller meals a day if I can. You won't find anyone who likes to eat a wider variety of foods than me, but after asking a lot of questions I was able to find a new variety of meals that are great for toning and that I also enjoyed eating. Some examples of meals I eat are a lot of stir-fry with either, tofu or chicken, steak, numerous types of fish, and a lot of turkey, tuna, grilled chicken and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on whole wheat bread. Make sure that you eat breakfast EVERY day. There is not a more important meal. If you're in a rush and you don't have time, grab an apple or granola bar for the ride to either work or school. After workouts I either have a protein shake, 2 lean turkey burgers, or 2 hamburger patties. If you are having the burgers put them on a foreman grill so you get rid of all the fat. A great shake: chocolate flavored protein with milk and a scoop of peanut butter.

I generally have about two to three cheat meals a week. Sunday is my cheat day and by eating what I want on Sunday I become motivated to diet right and work out hard throughout the week. If I want another cheat meal on either Saturday or one night during the week I do it. When you deprive yourself to much you will have trouble sticking to your strict diet. My favorite cheat meals are Japanese/Chinese food, pizza, McDonald's, and pretty much any type of food that I've been craving throughout the week.

In the gym I totally revamped my workout. I go 5-6 days a week, but I now do the cardio every day, except for Saturday's when I go. I do the elliptical on Mondays and Wednesdays for 15 minutes and I do a mile on the track on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Fridays I ride the bike for 20 minutes. I do abs on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. I used to do them every day, but you will see better results if you do them 3-4 days a week. I hit them really hard on the days I do them and I also am a big fan of using the medicine ball. With weights I tend to do a pyramid style workout, which means increasing the weight for bulk, then lowering the weight back down to shred up. Overall since May I have lost 15 pounds and now in the gym people ask me the questions about losing weight and cutting up that I used to ask.

My workout for the week:
Mondays: Biceps, Back, Abs, Elliptical
Tuesdays: Chest, Legs, Track
Wednesday: Abs, Elliptical
Thursdays: Shoulders, Traps, Track
Fridays: Triceps, Forearms, Abs, Bike
Saturdays: I try and do one exercise from each muscle group

I have done three shoots with John Mitchell and they all went really smooth. He is one of the easiest people to work for and he made the shoots real enjoyable. On my first shoot I was with two other models and we went to a park near UCONN and the park was awesome. We took some great shots, my favorite being the ones in the rapids, which was nice since it was such a hot day. John and I speak on the phone every week and we have developed a friendship along with a working relationship. I have felt very comfortable working with John and I highly recommend working with him to anyone who is looking to get into this business.
