Joseph "Jay" Gass is an AAAI/ISMA certified fitness trainer and the founder of Massive Action Fitness & Athletics.
He was born & raised in northern New Jersey where most of his athletic background started since the age of ten. He was involved in a variety of sports; football, basketball, track & field, swimming, and wrestling. He was selected as one of the top athletes in the state of New Jersey during high school.
Jay graduated H.P. Becton Regional HS in East Rutherford, NJ in 2003, then went on to attend Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL that fall for two years to study business & management. He also played as a wide receiver on the BC-U school's football team.
In April 2010, Jay began to use the experience from sports training to reach his goal of gaining 20lbs of muscle mass in 90 days. Standing at 6'1" 171 lbs, Jay trained 5-6 days a week consistently and was able to notice tremendous improvements surpassing his goal weighing in at 198 lbs.
Currently, Jay is an NPC men’s physique competitor. He entered his first competition at the Daytona Classic, September 2014, where he placed 1st place in the men’s tall physique category and won 1st overall. Jay continued to compete & entered his second show in Orlando at the NPC Southeastern National Qualifier, October 2014. He placed 2nd in his class to qualify for Miami Nationals Championship Nov. 22 2014, where he will compete for the IFBB pro-card.
Outside of being a licensed barber, personal trainer and the father of two daughters, Jay continues to train 6 days a week. His regiment is as follows:
Monday - Legs
Tuesday - Back
Wednesday - Chest & Arms
Thursday - Legs
Friday - Back & Shoulders
Saturday - HIIT conditioning
Jays keeps his pre-contest meal prep very simple. He dedicates his Sundays to prep his meals for the week. To keep his lean figure & muscular fullness, Jay eats red meat twice a week with high carbs (sweet/red potatoes or a cup of white rice). This would be on the days he work on legs and back. He would alternate between fish and chicken twice a day with a low carb & veggie. His pre workout meals will consist of chicken & white rice w/a protein shake, and BCAAs during his workout regimen. His post workout would be a fast digesting carb immediately after working out and another protein shake within an hour.
Jay had the opportunity to work with fitness photographer, John of BBPics.com. He took this opportunity to show other talents and that he has what it takes to be a fitness model. The two days working with John, has been a great experience. Jay didn't know what to expect, but with the guidance of John, he was able to get comfortable and have fun with posing and taking photo shots in some great locations. Jay also took the time to gain some knowledge and great advice, from John about his plans after competing for his pro card in shows. Jay is considering to compete for other organizations to build himself notoriety and expand Jay is forever grateful to work with John and would recommend him to any current or future bodybuilding athlete. John showed the up most respect & professionalism during his time with Jay, and two other athletes, George Blackwell and Michael Sheppard.
Thank you John!
