Born on October 31, 1972 and raised in Brooklyn, NY. I have dedicated the past fifteen years to the sport of bodybuilding. In November of 1997, I reached my goal. I gained IFBB Professional Status by winning the Bantamweight class at the Men's Nationals in Dallas, Texas. As a child I was always the smallest in my class. Both my height and weight were below average. I was never into team sports but was fascinated with large muscles. My Saturday mornings were spent watching wrestling and the incredible Hulk. I would go through so many undershirts practicing ripping open my shirt like the hulk did. My dream was one day to become as big as he was. One year my father purchased a Toys R US weight set and that is when it all began. In high school I was lucky enough to participate in a weight-training class to fulfill my physical education requirements. It was within the walls of John Dewey High School that I became truly inspired. I met many peers that were already into bodybuilding. They provided me with tips and pushed me to join a gym. The school held a yearly body building competition and after sitting in the audience for the first time I knew this was something I could accomplish. One year later I entered my high school's bodybuilding contest. I placed second in my weight class. Not only did I shock myself, but my peers were amazed with the dedication that I possessed. Once I proved to myself that I could achieve my goals, I started to compete locally and nationally with the NPC (National Physique Committee). After graduating high school I started working at the local General Nutrition Center. In time I was promoted to Assistant Manager, where I was required to complete an extensive course in nutrition. The training course provided me with the proper education of dieting and the use of supplements. Throughout my years at GNC, I provided guidance in nutrition and bodybuilding to customers, which eventually led me in the direction of personal training. In January of 1995, I became certified through NGA (National Gym Association) and started my own personal training company. I started taking continuing education courses to further my knowledge in biomechanics, kinesiology, nutrition and life extension. I now possess certifications through NFTA (National Fitness Trainers Association) and NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine). Presently, I own my own personal training company "The Body Mechanic...complete personal training services", as well as working as a Master Trainer in a very competitive sports club. My off-season and pre-contest workouts don't have many differences. However, during my pre-contest workouts I include more variations of exercises, more super setting, more volume training and I train each body part more frequently. During my pre-contests workouts I generally do between 3-4 sets and 15 reps per set. In May 2005, I will be competing in my first IFBB professional bodybuilding competition where there is no weight class. Having not competed in 7 years I plan to weigh 25 lbs. heavier than my weight in the Nationals. My pre-contest diet consists of High Protein foods, mainly red meat, chicken and eggs. I keep in high carbohydrates as well, mostly consisting of white rice and oatmeal. Due to my fast metabolism NO cardio exercises. My free time, which is limited, is spent researching training techniques, keeping myself up to date with the newest training and nutritional findings. It is my pleasure to share this knowledge with all my past and current clients. On a more personal level, I enjoy reading self help books. Some of my favorite authors are Tony Robbins, John Maxwell, and Zigg Ziggler. As for fun, I go to clubs occasionally, but usually go out to dinner every week with the guys to our favorite restaurant, The Outback Steakhouse. My latest endeavor is to actively pursue a career in Fitness Modeling. With the help of John Mitchell an extremely talented photographer of bbpics.com, I believe it will happen. I met John 3 years ago when he contacted me through my website gennarobrigante.com. For the past three years John has been asking me to do a photo shoot with him. I kept declining due to the fact that I was not in my best condition. I decided to wait until now since I am in pre-contest shape. Working with John was a pleasure. I felt at ease the entire time and he respected my opinion and my need for breaks. I have worked with other photographers before but he truly possesses a talent that surpasses many others. Working with John was effortless due to his keen eye and openness to any suggestions. John truly is dedicated to the art of photography. Thank you John for all you help and support.
